Joe Hetrick has accepted the position of senior director of ITS Research Services (ITS-RS), following a competitive national search. Hetrick has served as the interim director of ITS-RS since June and for the past four years led the Research Services Advanced Computing Support Team responsible for providing High Performance Computing, Research Storage, and Interactive Data Analytics services.  

Deputy Information Security Officer Zach Furst will become the new Chief Information Security Officer Aug. 1. Shari Lewison will remain in ISPO, continuing work on initiatives with which she is involved and working to ensure a smooth transition. Lewison initiated the change as she begins to plan for retirement, to ensure continuity and stability in the role.

An Extended Technical Support (ETS) consultant delivers on-site upgrades at the Iowa Robotic Observatory, a telescope about 1,500 miles from the University of Iowa campus, under the dark night skies of southern Arizona.

Jonna Higgins-Freese will lead the Office of Teaching, Learning, and Technology Instructional Services team, managing the daily work, planning, and cross-functional teams for multiple enterprise instructional technology services including the campus-wide learning management system (ICON), academic technology consulting, and the Learning Design Collaboratory initiative.

Mike Kaplan and Tracy Scott have received 2019 Board of Regents Staff Excellence Award in recognition of extraordinary contributions that significantly benefited the university and the state of Iowa.
