Earlier this summer, Information Technology Services (ITS) announced Guy Falsetti’s plans to retire. Falsetti was a key contributor to IT at the University of Iowa, and he played an important role in Enterprise Infrastructure (EI). For quite some time, Tim Evans has headed three units (EI, Enterprise Services, and the CIO Office). With Falsetti’s retirement, ITS has been working on plans for transitioning leadership of EI.
Ben Rogers will step into the role of senior IT director of EI. The mission of EI is to work in partnership with campus IT providers and ITS departments to provide for and sustain reliable, available, and responsive networking, computing, communications and physical IT infrastructure. Workgroups in EI include network services, IT physical infrastructure, IT facilities, cloud services, enterprise communications infrastructure, and the server support team. Rogers has 20 years of IT experience in K-12, higher education, and health care. He has been at the UI for 15 years, spending the first seven in UI Health Care and the remaining eight leading ITS Research Services (RS).
"With proven leadership and success in IT, a broad understanding of IT infrastructure, experience with rapidly evolving technology, strong campus relationships, and the ability to capture and understand multiple perspectives, I am confident Ben will be successful in his new role," says Associate Vice President and CIO Steve Fleagle.
Danny Tang will become the senior IT director of RS. The mission of RS is to enable and accelerate campus research through consulting, training, high-performance computing, large-scale data services, and more. Tang has served as the chief technology officer for the UI College of Engineering since 2016. He previously worked for 11 years at the University of Illinois at Champaign-Urbana, of which he is an alum. Six of those years were at the College of Engineering, where he worked his way up to assistant director for instructional services.
"Danny’s strengths include strong leadership skills and success leading in periods of change, and experience supporting research faculty," Fleagle says. "He has made significant contributions to our IT community through involvement in strategic planning, sponsorship of early career professionals, and engagement in OneIT governance groups."
Tang and Fleagle are working with College of Engineering leaders to ensure a smooth transition for leadership of Engineering IT. Evans will continue his roles as senior IT director of Enterprise Services and the CIO Office. Rogers and Tang will assume their new roles on Aug. 5. In the meantime, please continue to contact Rogers for RS matters, Evans for EI matters, and Tang for Engineering matters.
