Brad Rohrer, vice president for information technology and chief academic and research information officer at the University of Miami in Coral Gables, Florida, has been named chief information officer and associate vice president at the University of Iowa. He will begin on Feb. 23.
At the University of Miami, Rohrer oversees strategic IT initiatives that support academics and research across the university’s campuses and health system.
Rohrer succeeds Steve Fleagle, who will retire this spring after 40 years of service to the UI.
“Brad has an impressive background leading the IT enterprise at an AAU university with an academic medical center,” says Laura McLeran, UI vice president for administrative affairs and senior advisor to the president. “We are excited for the experienced leadership, expertise, and collaboration he will bring to the entire campus as we continue to navigate the changing IT landscape that is our world today.”
Rohrer was one of two candidates invited to campus in December to interview for the position. The search was led by Clark Stanford, dean of the College of Dentistry, and Sarah Hansen, vice president for student life.
Rohrer earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in criminology from Florida State University and a Master of Science degree in management of technology from the University of Miami.
“I am honored to join the University of Iowa and grateful for the confidence Laura and the leadership team have placed in me,” Rohrer says. “I am eager to listen, learn, and build upon the strong foundation already in place in close partnership with faculty, staff, and students across campus. I look forward to helping the university navigate what’s next with purpose, clarity, and collaboration.”
