Artificial Intelligence is a significant part of emerging technology today, but it will not be the last major technology transformation. To reflect a focus inclusive of but also beyond AI, the AI Support Team in Information Technology Services (ITS) has been renamed the Emerging Technologies Team. To connect with the team, use their new email address at ITS-EmergingTech@uiowa.edu.
This change is part of a larger organizational direction announced in early August. As the university continues to align technology services with institutional priorities, a key step was the creation of the Strategy and Innovation department, led by Katie Kahler, senior director and chief of staff.
The Emerging Technologies Team will continue to serve as a resource for AI-related questions, exploration, evaluation, and implementation. However, the broader focus will expand the team’s ability to engage with new technologies as they develop.
They will collaborate with campus partners and other ITS departments to ensure emerging technology opportunities align with the university’s strategic plan, security and governance practices, and the overall student, faculty, and staff experience.
The Emerging Technologies Team includes:
- Maddi Brenner, lead emerging technology strategist
- Ramey Fahal, emerging technology strategist
- Vedansh Airen, emerging technology strategist
