The OneIT Access, Opportunity, and Diversity (AOD) Action Plan was developed by a subgroup of IT leaders as part of the university strategic planning process. It aligns with the OneIT Strategic Plan guiding principle on inclusivity and collaboration. The AOD plan incorporates feedback and prioritization guided by input from the IT community and campus partners.

As required for its accreditation with the Higher Learning Commission, the University of Iowa “provides opportunities for civic engagement in a diverse, multicultural society and globally connected world, as appropriate within its mission and for the constituencies it serves. The institution encourages curricular or co-curricular activities that prepare students for informed citizenship and workplace success ... its processes and activities demonstrate inclusive and equitable treatment of diverse populations ... and it fosters a climate of respect among all students, faculty, staff and administrators from a range of diverse backgrounds, ideas and perspectives."

Initiatives in the OneIT AOD Plan aim to increase a feeling of belonging, improve retention rates, and increase the number of individuals who would recommend us as an employer. The efforts allow the OneIT community to learn more about AOD and apply that knowledge to interactions with others and the solutions it implements. The community’s ability to understand others better, reduce inconsiderate language, and consider others in its efforts has the potential to directly impact the success of faculty, staff, and students.
