Data governance

Steps are being taken to formalize institutional data governance at the University of Iowa. The project aims to advance the university data culture, increase literacy and awareness, support informed decisions, ensure data stewardship, unify data across the university, develop and review policies, prioritize data and data governance projects, and resolve data and governance issues.

SPARK

SPARK is a joint program between OneIT and Health Care Information Systems for IT professionals to enhance "on-the-job" learning and career mobility. Experiential learning is one way to help ensure the skills of our IT workforce meet current and future needs.

ICON Direct

ICON Direct is a digital storefront for buying textbooks and course materials at a much lower cost than printed equivalents. Use has grown steadily since the first pilot in fall 2017, and savings to UI students are estimated at $1 million and counting as more instructors choose this option for their courses.

Interactive Data Analytics Service

The Interactive Data Analytics Service (IDAS) is a high-performance computing (HPC) resource that supports large-scale and collaborative data analytics workflows involving RStudio for R and Jupyter Notebook for Python. IDAS features its own HPC and graphics processing units (GPUs). Users can perform interactive data-analysis tasks with applications used for machine learning and other artificial intelligence workflows.

Skype for Business

The University of Iowa is in the process of migrating from traditional phones to Skype for Business, which uses the internet—Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP)—to make calls. Skype for Business offers additional features such as instant messaging, presence, and video calls. It also provides greater flexibility and reduces maintenance and infrastructure costs.
